The De Eerstelling mill is a corn mill located in central Hoofddorp. The mill was constructed in 1856, and it was the first mill to be built in the Haarlemmermeer polder, which had been reclaimed from the water in 1852. The name of the mill, ’Eesrteling’ translates to ’First One’. The mill was used to grind corn until 1930. It fell out of use after more houses were built around the mill, causing a wind catchment problem. The mill is now open to the public several days each week – it is best to call to confirm days and times.
