The Korenbeurs, or Corn Exchange, on the west side of Vismarkt in Groningen was constructed in 1865. It has three statues on its facade, representing Neptune – god of the sea and seafaring, Mercurius, the god of commerce, and Ceres, the goddess of agriculture. The corn exchange was for many years the only one in the Netherlands, and is now one of the largest in Europe. Corn is still sold in this corn exchange every Tuesday.
