The Achterste of Laaglandse Mill stands near the Hooglandse Mill in the town of Hellouw. The two mills have very similar histories. The Achterste of Laaglandse Mill is the third mill to stand in it’s location – the first was destroyed in the same flood that destroyed the Hooglandse Mill. The second was destroyed by a fire in 1864. The Achterste of Laaglandse Mill was used until 1947 to drain the Hellouw Polder. In 1994 the mill was restored to working order.
