The Westeinderplassen (or, Westeiner Lakes) make up almost one third of the Aalsmeer municipality. The lakes are ideal for recreational day trips – those with a license can take a motorboat out on to the lake or go water skiing. If you do not have a license then you can take rides on tour boats. There is a park at Vrouwentroost which offers picnic areas and surfing facilities. There are also nature reserves nearby which contain a number of interesting and rare flora, and offer nesting sites for birds.
