Veenpark is an open air museum a short walk from the village of Borger. The museum spreads across several old canals, and consists of a series of reconstructed villages which trace the history and development of the peat colonies in southern Groningen and eastern Drenthe. The museum includes operational period reconstructions of everything from bakeries and bars, to a narrow-gauge railway running through the villages. It is advisable to devote a full day to exploring the open air museum, as the villages cover quite a large area.
