The Van Gogh museum holds the worlds largest collection of Van Gogh related items, including paintings, drawings and letters. The museum allows you to chart the development of Van Gogh’s career, and also includes works by his contemporaries and friends, such as Gauguin and Toulouse-Lautrec. There are regular exhibitions covering various aspects of 19th century art, and a series of lectures which examine selected examples of Van Gogh’s work. The museum is housed in two buildings, the main building opened in 1973, and the exhibition wing was constructed in 1999.
