The Walmolen was built in 1851 to replace a older mill that had burned down in 1850. The mill was in active use until 1908. In 1910, the mill was partially dismantled, and in 1961 it was threatened with demolition, but protests from the local community encouraged the local authority to restore the mill. In order to restore the mill, parts were taken from the old ’The Hope’ mill in Leiden. The mill is now in working order, and is open for visitors each Tuesday.
