The Riekermolen is a working polder mill on the western side of the Amstel. It was built in 1636 to serve the 515 hectare Buitenveldert polder. The mill was moved to its current location in 1932, and was in active use until 1961, when it was relegated to a backup pump because new housing developments to the north interfered with the flow of wind to the mill. Today, the mill is used as a backup pump for the Buitenveldert polder.
