The Portuguese Synagogue
Mr. Visserplein 3, Amsterdam - Netherlands

Map
The Portuguese Synagogue was built in the 17th century as a place for the Jews that had fled from Portugal and other areas of Central and Eastern Europe. The building has changed slightly over the centuries, but the overall character has not been lost. During the Nazi invasion, the Synagogue was one of the few Jewish buildings in Amsterdam that remained mostly untouched – the reason for this is unknown. Regular services are still held at the Synagogue.
