The Middle or Lower Mill is a traditional ’wipmolen’ style polder mill in the town of Cabauw. The mill was built in 1773, and is now owned by the Utrecht Mills Foundation. The mill originally used wind power, and was converted to diesel in 1933. During the Second World War, diesel fuel was in short supply, and the drive was converted to use electricity. The mill was partially restored in 1993, and although the sails can be seen turning, further work is required to make the mill fully operational.
