The Magere Brug, or, Skinny Bridge, is located between Kerkstraat and Nieuwe Kerkstratt in Amsterdam. There has been a bridge on this part of the river Amstel for several centuries. According to local lore, the first bridge was built to unite the homes of two sisters who lived on opposite sides of the river. The modern footbridge is very quaint, and is wonderful to view at night, when it is lit up. The bridge serves as a drawbridge, with a bridge master who is responsible for manually opening it to allow boats to pass through.
