The Hope Mill (or, “De Hoop”) was built in 1845, and was used as a grain mill for 80 years. In 1925, the mill was decommissioned, and the shaft was removed. The mill suffered heavy damage during a storm in 2002, when heavy winds blew the roof off. The owner, Leo van Riel, began restoration work shortly afterwards. The Hope Mill is a listed monument, and as such restoration work is planned, however the mill’s location – in a built-up area – means it is unlikely it will ever be restored to full working order.
