The Etty Hillesum Centre celebrates the life of a Jewish woman of the same name, who died in Auschwitz in 1943. Etty Hillesum lived in Deventer from 1924 until 1932. She started to keep a diary when she was 27, and in the two years she wrote in it, she underwent a spiritual journey and became very religious. The Etty Hillesum Centre contains many of her writings, along with exhibits on the subjects of spiritual tolerance and racism.
