The Elephant Mill is a working polder mill located on Wiereweg in the town of Burdaard. The mill was built in 1867 to manage the ’Elephant Polder’. In 1867, the mill was decommissioned and a steam pump took over the husbandry of the polder. The mill has been owned by the Fryske Mill Foundation since 1977, and was restored in 1979. The Elephant mill is open to the public, and tours are available by appointment only.
