The Strijkmolen E was one of 14 mills built between 1627 and 1630 to serve the Geestmerambacht and Heerhugowaard polders. In 1941 the mills were decommissioned, and several of them were demolished. The remaining eight mills were converted to residences and rented out to private tenants. On March 10th, 2000, the Alkmaar Mill Foundation bought the mills, and restored them to working order. The Srijkmolen E is open to the public, and tours of the mill are available upon request.
