The Strijkmolen D was one of 14 mills built between 1627 and 1630 to serve the Geestmerambacht and Heerhugowaard polders. In 1941 all of the mills were decommissioned, and several of them were demolished. The remaining eight mills were rented out to private owners, and used as residences. On March 10th, 2000, the Alkmaar Mill Foundation bought the mills, and restored them to working order. The Srijkmolen D is open to the public, and tours of the mill are available upon request.
