The Stadhuis, or Town Hall in Alkmaar is a grand, Gothic building which dates back to the early 16th century. The western part of the building was added several decades later, and dates from 1594. The building contains a grand council chamber, a magistrates room which is decorated in Renaissance style, and several other interesting rooms. There is a cupboard which is designed in the traditional Schermer style, and the Nierop Room has a wooden ceiling and some early 17th century period furniture.
