The Philisteinse Mill was built in the first half of the 16th century, as an upgrade to a smaller wooden mill. In the mill was almost totally destroyed by a fire after it was struck by lightning in 1757. The mill-makers Piet Stroomer of Lutjewinkel and Cornelis Stroomer of Zijdewind rebuilt the mill the same year. Today, the mill is owned by the town of Bergen, and is in working order. Tours of the Philisteinse Mill are available by appointment.
