The Oude Kerk (Old Church) has been reconstructed several times over the centuries. It is believed that the original building was constructed during the 13th century, and dedicated to St Nicholas. The church was expanded, piece by piece with extra wings and chapels being added over a 300 year period. The Oude Kerk was looted during the reformation, and many paintings were lost. The church became a Protestant one in 1578. The church is known as the home of three antique organs, and acted as a burial grounds from 1300 to 1865.
