The Museum Van Loon is located in a canal house which was built in 1672. The Van Loon family did not move in to the house until 1884, and the last member of the family to live here was Willem van Loon, a banker whose wife was of German heritage. Her ties to Germany let do allegations that she entertained German officials during the occupation, causing the Van Loon family to be shunned by many. The home has recently been restored to something similar to its 18th century appearance.
