The Museum Amstelkring is a museum devoted to the ’Ons Lieve Heer op Solder’, or ’Our Lord in the Attic’ – a sanctuary from a time when only the Dutch Reformed Church was allowed to hold public services. Those who followed other religions were forced to gather in secret, and this museum is located in a 17th century merchant’s home which was a haven for Catholics who lived during that time. The attic was converted to a church, with an altar, and a pipe organ. The church itself has now moved, and is located in the Red Light District.
