The Munttoren, or Mint Tower, is a tower that stands in the Muntplein square, near the flower market in Amsterdam. The tower was originally part of one of the main gates in Amsterdam’s medieval city wall. The gate was destroyed in a fire in 1618, and only the guard house and part of the tower remained. The tower was rebuilt in 1618. It was converted into a mint in 1672 after England and France declared war on the Dutch Republic.
