The Molen van De Munniken was built in 1781 as one of several mills to serve the 66 hectare Munnik, Raven, and Robonsbospolder on the Schermerboezern. The mill was closed down in 1931, because new housing developments around the mill blocked the flow of wind, and made the mill inefficient to run. The mill was bought by the town of Alkmaar in 1971, and was restored to working order. Tours of the mill are available by appointment.
