The Molen De Jong Dikkert is a unique restaurant located in the town of Amstelveen. The restaurant is housed in a converted wind mill. The mill was built in 1672, and was originally used for woodcutting. It changed hands several times throughout the years, and in the early 1900s was converted to steam power, and then later to electricty. The mill was originally simply named ’The Dikkert’, which translates to ’The Fatty’, because of its appearance. The name was changed to ’The Young Fatty’ by the current owners, to reflect the restaurant’s modern feel, and also the rich history of the mill.
