The Marine Museum in Den Helder traces the history of the Dutch navy. It includes some interesting sections on Dutch naval heroes throughout the centuries. One of the most interesting being Admiral Michiel de Ruyter, who defeated the Spanish, Swedish, French and English in a series of daring exploits. Other exhibitions examine how shipbuilding has changed throughout history, and there are a number of decommissioned vessels on display, including a World War II minesweeper and a 1960s submarine.
