The name ’Krijtberg’ refers to one of three houses bought by Jesuit Father Petrus Laurensz. After purchasing the houses, Laurensz turned them into hidden churches. The Krijtberg is dedicated to St Francis Xavier, and has a long history. A real church was built on the site in 1677, and was then re-designed by Alfred Tepe in 1883 – it is Tepe’s design that remains today, and the building has undergone a lot of restoration work in recent years.
