The Kinderdijk, or, Childs Dyke, is located at the end of a long drainage channel just north of Dordrecht. It takes its name from a sixteenth century story which tells that a cradle containing a cat and a baby was found at the precise location where the dyke had held during a very bad storm. The story celebrates the determination with which the town had fought flooding for hundreds of years. Today, the Kinderdijk is a popular tourist spot which attracts visitors looking to enjoy the view of the windmills which line the main channel.
