The Kasteel Huis Doorn is a medieval castle that was gradually converted into a manor house during the 18th and 19th century. It also played home to Kaiser Wilhelm II, who came to Holland after the German surrender at the end of World War I. The Dutch had maintained neutrality during the war, and subsequently refused to extradite Wilhelm for trial as a war criminal. He died here in 1941, during the German occupation of World War II.
