The Homomonument is located in near the Westerkerk Church in Amsterdam. The monument was erected to commemorate the gay men and women who were persecuted at various times in history. The monument consists of three triangles that merge to form a single large triangle, with a pink granite component that reaches out onto the water. The triangles point to the Anne Frank House, the National War Monument, and the gay rights organization, the COC. The pink triangle is especially important as it was the symbol that gay citizens were branded with during the Nazi persecution.
