Het Houten Huys, which translates to ‘The Wooden House’ is one of the few remaining pre-Reformation buildings on the Begijnhof in Amsterdam. It is also the oldest remaining wooden building in the city - constructed in the year 1477, before the construction of timber houses was forbidden, as a precaution against fires. The interior has been redecorated, but you can still get a good look at the timber, and see how the house was constructed.
