The Grote Kerk, or Great Church, in Bergen has had a rough history. It is an ugly building, which has suffered a lot over the past four hundred years having been severely damaged by flooding, siege, and bombing. The Grote Kerk is located on the Grote Markt, not far from the Stadhuis, or Town Hall, and is a stark contrast to its cleaner, much more affluent appearing architecture.
