The Drents Museum is spread out over several old houses around Brink Square in the small village of Assen. The museum covers the history of the Drenthe province, and includes some interesting exhibits such as an assortment of prehistoric bodies from the early settlers who built the hunebeds (megalithic tombs built on the Hondsrug ridge). The museum also holds the oldest water vessel ever found – the Pesse Canoe, which dates back to some time around 6800 BC.
