The Den Haag Historical Museum, is located just to the north of the Mauritshuis, in a beautiful Neoclassical Mansion that was originally home to the city’s main militia company, who were known as ‘The Archers of St Sebastian’. The museum focuses on the history of the country in general, and the city of Hague in particular. The collection is large and varied, and includes a number of paintings by Jan Steen, and some works by his father-in-law, the landscape painter Jan van Goyen.
