The ’De Toekomst’ mill is an historic corn mill located on Hoofdvaart in the town of Dedemsvaart. The mill was built in 1820 by the businessman Derk Santman of Hardenburg, for his son, Ielkes Kruizinga. In 1937, the mill was upgraded to make use of a diesel engine, and by 1947 the mill had bee closed down. Today, the mill is used as a storage area for a livestock feed company. The mill hull is considered to be a protected monument, and there are ongoing talks regarding restoration of the mill itself.
