The De Ruff Mill was built in 1934 to serve the Waal and Burp polder, located approximately 1.8 miles northwest of the town of De Waal. The land that the mill stands on is a part of a nature reserve that is currently closed to the public. The mill was decommissioned in 1969, when an electric pump took over the management of the polder. The De Ruff Mill is now owned by the Association for the Preservation of Nature and Monuments in the Netherlands.
