The De Hoop Mill was bulit in 1849 on the former Baantjerbolwerk, to replace an old post mill known as ’The Big Windmill’, that had been demolished in 1940. The De Hoop Mill has been used as both a corn and a barley mill. The De Hoop Mill was owned by the Broekema family for around 70 years before it was sold to to the town, and subsequently restored. The mill is open to the public, and there is a small pet shop on the ground floor.
