The De Biesbosch National Park is one of the largest national parks in the netherlands. It is one of the few remaining freshwater tide areas in the continent of Europe. The biesbosch is a large network of rivers and creeks with islands. There are lots of wet grassland areas, and fields of reed. The area was created when 300 Sq. Km of land was submerged during a flood in 1421. In the last couple of hundred years much of the land was reclaimed, but, as part of a conservation scheme many of the rivers and creeks have been reconnected, restoring the natural habitats of the local wildlife.
