The first mention of the Bokhoven Castle is in 1392, when Jan Oem van Arkel founded a chapel in the castle. Since then, the castle has suffered damage at the hands of invading troops on several occasions, and was almost totally destroyed during the French invasion of 1672. Today, only a small gate tower, two other towers, and a part of the curtain wall remain. These structures have been integrated into a private home which was built on the site of the original keep.
