The Blankenburg Castle was built during the early 13th century by the Boninghe Knights. The castle has had several owners, including the Van Appeltern family, and the Van Egmond family. In 1774 the castle was sold to the Van Wijhe family, who tore down most of the buildings, with the exception of one tower, which still remains today. The area surrounding the tower is now a part of a public park, and the tower is used as an office for a company which provides motivational speakers.
