The ’Molen De Zwarte Ruiter’, or windmill ’Black Ruiter’ was constructed in 1777. It was originally used as a polder mill, built to drain water from the land and pump it into nearby rivers. In 1866, the mill was converted to a corn mill with three flocks grindstones. It remained in use as a cornmill until around the time of the First World War. The mill is an interesting example of Dutch engineering and architecture, although it is no longer operational.
