The Bible Museum in Amsterdam is spread across two ornately decorated stone mansions on the Herengracht. The buildings were built in the 1660s for the Cromhout family – one of the wealthiest merchant families in Amsterdam at the time The museum features an extravagant ceiling painting by Jacob de Wit, and displays a selection of old bibles, including the first Dutch-language Bible ever printed. Other items on display include a model of Solomon’s Temple, and a number of archeological finds from Palestine and Egypt.
