The Archaeological Centre is located in central Alkmaar, and opened to the public in 1997. It displays a variety of important archaeological finds from around the Alkmaar area. As well as hosting exhibitions, the Archaeological Centre provides working space for archaeologists. The building is named after C. W. Bruinvis, who was the first municipality archivist of Alkmaar and also director of the urban musuem. The building also plays host to the towns monument preservation and historical associations.
