The Arcen Castle dates back to the 17th century. It was built by the Dukes of Gelre, and has belonged to several different noble families throughout its 400 year history. The castle suffered heavy damage during the Second World War, when it was used as shelter by soldiers. Today, the castle is owned by the Limburg Landscape foundation. The estate contains a traditional brewery, a spa, and a water mill. The castle gardens are a spectacular sight, containing plants imported from all over Europe.
