Alkmaar’s Municipal Museum (Stedelijk Musem) is housed in a building that was formally the 17th Century headquarters of St Sebastiaans Schutterij (the Marksmen’s Guild). The Marksmen’s guild acted as the town guard from the 14th century up until the beginning of the 19th century. The Municipal Museum displays paintings from the Bergen school of the 16th and 17th centuries, along with a collection of coins and other material related to the history of the town.
