The Admiraliteitshuis in Dokkum was built in 1618 and once served as the Admiralty building or ’sea office’ where protection of ocean going trade and naval warfare was organised. The building has been home to the regional museum since 1963, and displays regional art, traditional children’s toys, and ceramics, textiles and silverware from around the region. There is also an exhbition devoted to St Boniface, an English Bishop who was murdered in Dokkum in 754AD.
