The Aalsmeer Historical Gardens is a living horticultural museum, and it charts the development of horticulture in the town of Aalsmeer, from the arboriculture of the 17th century to the cultivation of shrubs, ornamental trees and ancient roses. There is a section devoted to newer varieties of flowers cultivated in the 20th century. The museum also displays collections of tools, baskets, barrows, and even boats that were used to transport flowers along the canals market.
